The latest technical project update for architects, from this exciting development in Surrey
We were approached by Bluu Square Developments to submit proposals to the end client for the full external and internal glazing package that would meet their vision and specific requirements. Woodlands Farm is a 5 bedroom SIPPs build over three floors using modern construction methods. The property is finished in natural stone and zinc cladding.
Daylight met with Bluu Square and their private client initially to discuss their specific need and overall vision. Their vision was for modern, bright open spaces inside and clear separation for recreation, living and sleeping across three floors. The property sits in two acres of land, surrounded fully by woodland. The client wanted the property to fully compliment it’s surroundings and enable them to maximise the space and light both inside and outside.
Once we understood what the client wanted and how they would use each space in the property, we were able to make initial proposals.
Meeting the Client’s Vision
We worked with Schuco, Smarts and Cortizo to design three distinct options for the client and then met for a second time to present our options and recommendations. Meeting with the client, the developer, the interior designer and the architect, we presented our proposal and made recommendations based on the client brief, their vision and what we believed would best compliment their new property.
Daylight presented three options based on design, suitability and function. The desire for creating a modern but classic look, with minimal form and sight lines and advanced design led Daylight to recommend Cortizo for the main system. Cortizo is a leading European manufacturer, and one of the most progressive aluminium system companies there is.
The entire product range covers sliding doors, residential doors, curtain walling and panel systems. Cortizo is also re-branded as Ultraline, Origin, Sieger, Everglade and Arkay. The breadth of Cortizo’s range and the introduction of the Arch Invisible Window system made the choice relatively straight forward for the client.
Our in-house surveyors and technical team worked with the Architect and QS to ensure that all systems and profile designs were included in the final design. Our in-house team supplied CAD and DWG drawings so the exact design measurements could be included in the final SIPPs design.
The client wanted to achieve minimal frame sight lines wherever possible and flush thresholds on all door openings both inside and out. Our technical teams supplied Halo with DWG drawings of all profiles and systems so that these could be included in the final design. When the site was ready for survey, our surveyors measured all openings and made final adjustments to ensure that the sight lines and levels met all requirements before manufacturing commenced. The install, also managed by Daylight, will be completed in mid 2022.
