In May 2021 via the powers of social media advertising we received a request for quotation for three sets of doors at the rear of this clients period house. They were undergoing some refurbishment works which included a new build extension and the requirements for some stylish heritage sliding doors.
Proactive Design Advice
On initial request we had originally provided imagery of bi-folding doors to maximise each opening, but it was quickly determined that this style of door would have a greater obstruction to the interior living space or exterior garden space should the door leaves swing in or out. We opted for sliding doors instead as a design alteration, which complimented the idea of using up less space around each opening.
Maximising Space
Aesthetically, we needed to work together with the client to determine what system we used to maximise the opening, to reduce sight lines and to keep the openings uniform (not having a LH opening or RH opening, but instead doors that opened from the middle). With the property having an odd number of doors installed, this detail was important to get right.
The CorVision sliding door by Cortizo lended itself to this design, the client’s overall vision and equally just as important, its functionality.
Working Collaboratively
Once the designs and functionalities were agreed, we booked a professional survey and began talks with the build team on site so we could work closely on ensuring that the thresholds could be dropped and we could deliver a flush FFL (Finished floor level) internally, which was an important request by our client. As the door design doesn’t offer a low aluminium threshold, talks with the builder were important to achieve this crucial detail.
